hi,can anyone help me,i,m trying to find the parents of richard thompson.born in annan ,dumfrishire,scotland around 1889,richard thompson married mary ada preston who was born in manchester in 1895 give or take a few years.they had 4 children,dorothy,catherine,margeret amelia and leonard laurence all deceased bar from dorothy and catherine,also if you can look up mary ada prestons parents also i would be much appreciated,only only just starting out in this fascinating hobby,it,s very addictive,i have been looking now for about 8 mnths and am about to give up otherwise.please help.

If brummiejan has found the correct marriage, you need to buy the certificate to find out Mary Ada's Father's name.
Then when we have searched for her birth certificate and census possibilities you will be able to tie the family together.

thank you for everyone who has helped me ,finding,all the info about richard thompson,my husbands grandfather,and family members,i did think it was one of the same name,but how do i go on finding his mothers maiden name to carry on my family tree,the other difficulty i have is the family names on the maternal and parternal sides are so common on both sides of my family tree,,any more help please on richard thompsons maternal side please,thanks again to everyone,

Richard's birth certificate will have his Mother's maiden name.
As it was in Scotland, some people on here can access those records, so if you change the title of this thread you could attract their help.

i ordered a birth certificate for my mother in law,but when i recieved it ,it only had her date of birth and were born and what part ot the country she was born in,also isn,t it different in scotland

A word of caution - as you say this is a pretty common name. personally I would get the marriage cert to find out about his occupation and father's details.

I have previously registered with Scotlands People website and got a copy of my ancesters birth certificate on line for a small cost and it is instant if that helps.

how much does it cost to register with scotlands people,and how much for the birth certificate,what do you have to do print it off,
