William Bell appears in Annan (Brydekirk) 1841 census aged 37, married to Jannet (37). Children - daughter aged 12, William 8, John 4, son aged 3, ?Anthony 2.

John was born in Ireland. William snr moved to Tallantire, Cumberland - Land Steward at Tallantire Hall and died in Dearham in 1878 - 3 more children in 1851 census - Archibald 9, George 5 and David 4. Jan(n)et died Jan 1861

Does anyone know about any of these please. I cannot find Jannet's maiden name- there is more than one William and Janet at that time.

Are you sure they're the same people?
What happened to all the younger children? There seems to be a complete new set of children. Anthony is a very strange name for a Scottish child at that time.

If you look at the actual census return you will see it is difficult to read. "Nicholas" is actually a girl! Ancestry decifered it as Nicholas! William, Jannet, William and John are legible but the other names are not too clear - but Anthony seems to be a likely interpretation. It is unlikely that there will be 2 named John - but what the 3 year old is actually called is difficult to decide. John from Ireland ties up with our line - he also moved to Cumbria and married and lived in Aspatria. It is through him that I tied up with William - his father. Where in Ireland he was born I do not know where to start looking - there are rather a lot of John Bells!

I had found the Tallantire census details. Thanks for your help. Margaret
