Female Roberts b in London from 1899 to 1901 per 1901 census (Ancestry), either Alice, or Beatrice:

Alice to John and Ellen (insurance agent) Mile End/Stepney only 9m old

Alice J and Alice M both 1 yr old but wrong middle initial (St Pancras; b Pimlico living in St Geo H Sq area)

Beatrice A in Camberwell (prob b Peckham), only 5-6 months old

Beatrice A in St Geo H Sq b Pimlico to Sidney and Mary (father a musician in the Scots Guards) age 1 a possibility

Beatrice (no middle initial) is living and born in Clerkenwell - also age 1 also a possible - father Edward is a metal polisher

Did the family know her as Alice or as Beatrice? (My grandmother disowned her Alice name as being too old-fashioned!)

(NB Search restricted to those b around March 1900 on the assumption that the informant of her death did know how old she was).

Hi Joseph,

The birth registration that Quoy found might be the one you need. There is a six week period after the birth in which to register the birth, which may take it into the Apr/May/Jun quarter of 1900.

It would be nice to be able to match this birth to the 1901 census - I'll try and spread the net a bit wider..

Hi Quoy

Hi Joseph,

Ancestry offers 21 Alice Beatrice (or Beatrice Alice) Roberts birth registrations in England & Wales between 1890 and 1910; there are even more for Alfred Daniels, but assuming that he was a London costermonger and born in London restricts it to (only!) 47 birth registrations.

It's probably going to be a matter of accumulating pointers rather than finding proof. Were their children all born in a particular area? What were their names (eg named after Alfred/Alice's siblings?) Is it possible that Alice had been married before and Roberts is not her maiden name? Do you have addresses/witnesses/informants from any certificates?
