My husbands g grandfather was John Parker brn1821.He moved to S Wales to work as a weigher in the silver lead mines in 1862 and married Rachel Griffiths in 1863 Their only child John was born in Dec that year.I have no idea where he died but in the 1881 Welsh cencus Rachel is a widower and working as a greengrocer with her 17 yr old son in Ann St Llanelli.I would love to know more about her husband John.I cannot find him in any Welsh cencuses.Family talk has it that he came down from the Old Kent Rd where he had worked as a silversmith before moving to Wales and that he was from Bermondsey, but I can't find hide nor hair of him there either!I've got an old photograph of Rachel Griffiths taken circa 1875 in Redcar so perhaps there is a connection there.I hope someone out there can help and look forward to hearing from you! . |

David, many thanks for your reply.I have the marriage cert and all it states is that John's father is called Edward and is a carpenter. No mention of where they are from.I'm glad you found Rachael in the 1871 census,As she was already a widower then at least it narrows my search for John's death cert. She was a domestic servant in her uncle Thomas Thomas's greenfield Inn when she met John! Again Many thanks. |
