Date of Death? Can you help me?

I have no idea of when my grandparents, Thomas (DOB c 1900) & Elsie HallI (DOB 15.6.1911) died. I know they were living in Luss Villiage (near Loch Lomond), Alexandria, Scotland, so I'm assuming they died there. Does anyone have any clever ideas of how I can find their DODs? Without even approximate dates, it will be difficult doing a record search.

I will be very grateful for any advice. Toni

Toni,

The best place to look for Scottish records is at www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk

You will need to purchase credits, but it is well worth it.

Thanks for this Lewella. I will definitely give it a go. What would you suggest with picking a date to start search? I have absolutely no idea when they died.

Toni,

If you haven't already found the death certificates on Scotlands People it might be worth e-mailing Argyll & Bute council to ask if the Registrar for the Luss area can do a search for you

[email protected]

I know they do it in other parts of Scotland, I think for around £15.

Good luck
Susan

HI Toni,

The rgistrar I visited is in Lochgilphead.....very nice and helpful people.

However there is a death in Argyl & Bute of a Elsie Hall @ Lochgilphead aged 72 who died in 1985
Ref: 533/00/0011. Be wary on the SP site it can leave you destitute if you are not sure of using their search site, she may have been 73 I will go back and check.

Yes aged 73 years other names used BURKETT

Thanks so much for the information, Susan and Ann, I will definitely give both sites a go. I was well and truly stung by Scottish People website - paid £6 for 30 credits - unable to find anything on my grandparents, offered to search for other and, although I was being charged 5 credits each time, was unable to view any images, even though I tried through Java and Direct Download. I'll stay well clear of them from now on! All the best, Toni

Hi Toni,

I checked the marriages for them and it looks like they may have married after 1932. There are too many Thomas Halls to check through and none jump out with the area given if you search around his birthdate c1900. Did he hvae a middle name?

I'm sorry to hear that, Toni. I have been using SP for years and have never had a problem. :-(

Hi Ann. Thanks for info on Elsie Hall, sounds promising - where is Lochgilphead? Is it near Luss Village, Alexandria? Sorry for my ignorance (I'm right down South, near Portsmouth). Elsie's maiden name was actually Birkett, not Burkett.
I have marriage cert and marriage was definitely 4.9.1932. Thomas Hall is a real problem (so many of them, as you say). His middle name was Henry and his father's name was also Thomas Henry Hall.

Lewella. Yeah, not sure what problem was, SP say it was my PC at fault. I don't have problems viewing in Genes or other research sites. Very strange! Thanks anyway. Toni
