looking for Edwin and Martha ( Brother and Sister ) and I cant be sure of the surname yet. But They did emigrate to Australia around the turn of the century. I have an address of 73 Oakbank St, Newport, Victoria Melbourne, which appears on a post card sent to my Grandmother May Sophia Tonge.

Links to Thompson are My G Grandmother ( Elizabeth Thompson born Feb 1846 in Wigan ) and was married to
Anthony Cookson who died in 1876. She remarried Edwin Tonge and gave birth to My Grandmother May Sophia.

If you have any Edwin & Martha's who emigrated to Australia early 1900's who had an Aunt Elizabeth please contact me.
Many thanks

Hi John, The 'Victoria State Library' has an 'Ask Us' librarian service -(query form on-line) - they will check their records -incl electoral rolls. They should be able to check for them at that address.. and trace them for you. (at least they may have their FULL names -would make it easier to find their deaths etc). (Australian d certs. give names/ages of off-spring) .............Valerie (WA)

Thanks I have already sent the details through to the library service and hope to hear something soon. They confirmed receipt and have said they will check the records. I did not know about the addittional information on the death certificates though that will help, thanks john

I have now had a response from the library service but they are referring me to other bodies etc, however without any surname this is unlikley to be of any use. Has anyone got access to the Melbourne Electoral registers for 73 Oakbank Street Newport Victoria for 1900 to 1936 ??
