I have been looking for the birth or baptism of my great grandfather for several years. He is Parowmas Harris son of Moses and Mary Ann Harris (nee Webb). Varios census record his place of birth as Wanstead Flats and Brentwood Essex. His brother Thomas c1867 is listed as born Wanstead. I have found his sister Elizabeth Ann 1859 birth record at Little Baddow Essex. Moses was a licenced Hawker/marine store gatherer and clearly travelled. I would appreciate any help.

What a lovely name. Can I put him in my tree?

I've tracked him down on earlier census returns.

Spellings of his first name vary.

In 1881 he shows as Pavoneas

In 1871 he's Purmas on the listing but could be Purman on the image.

Just to say Parowmas is a gypsy name meaning 'the divine one'. I too love the name and my daughter aged 25 years is determined if she has a son he will be named Parowmas. However, both my grandad and great grandad were named Parowmas and both chose to be known as Bob!!!

I have him 1871 through to 1901, as you say, under various spellings. But I have never been able to trace a birth or baptism. This is not made easy by the fact they were a travelling family and baptism could have been anywhere! You would have thought with a name like that it would be easy!!
