David,

Thank you for your efforts.

This Joseph Cook is a distinct possibility. Unfortunately I have no information to connect this Joseph in Staffs to my Joseph in Co Durham.

I do know that Shotton Colliery expanded dramatically at the beginning of the 20th century and many workers migrated in. Indeed, Joseph's future wife Edith migrated from Cefn Mawr, Denbighshire with her then husband Samuel Butler between 1901 and 1905.

I have checked mining websites but they only record those who were killed in the mines.

If you can think of any public records which might provide the link, short of waiting for the 1911 census to be published, then please advise.

Regards,

Brian

Thank you for your reply.

I have been in contact with the Salvation Army who declined to assist me. They told me they did not hold deceased member records and that thier reunite service is only for people attempting to locate living relatives.

I am seeking any information regarding Joseph Cook and his father Thomas Cook.

Joseph was born abt 1882 at place unknown, England.

He married Edith Butler (nee Davies) on 17 Jul 1915 at St.Saviour, Shotton, County Durham, England. He gave his fathers name as Thomas Cook (Forgeman), his age as 33 and occupation Miner on marriage certificate in 1915. He died on 25 Jul 1929 at Shotton, County Durham, England. Joseph and Edith had three children, Edward (Eddie), Irene (Reenie) and Joseph (Joe). Joseph and Edith were members of the Salvation Army.

There is word of mouth but no documentation that Joseph worked at Bradford Colliery, Manchester before moving to Durham.

Edith Cook was previously married to Samuel D Butler with whom she mothered six children, Albert, Beatrice, Richard, John, Samuel Davies and Edith Louisa.

While principally interested in Joseph senior and his father Thomas I will be interested to hear from anyone with any information about this family group.

Regards,

Brian
