We have a problem. ;)
Anyone reading the surname list for your Edwin's surname knows what the surname is, because that's the list they're reading.
The rest of us reading the general Surname Information board don't have a clue! All we can see is "Edwin emigrated to Canada". And the catch-22 is that there's no way for us to work backwards to find the surname.
I ask because I might be able to help you out with Cdn records at Ancestry. If I had a surname. ;)
Do you know the daughters' names? And where in Canada they might have lived? Vital stats are recorded separately by each province, so looking for BMDs means searching the 5 or 6 provinces that do have them on line, and hoping they were in one of those provinces.
Oh, duh. I search FreeBMD for Edwin married to Mary Pearson in 1851 ... Edwin Dengate. Sure enough, you're on the DENGATE surname list.
In the 1901 census there are two Dengates born in England who both immigrated to Canada in 1872:

There are no perfect matches for those births in the GRO, but there are approximates in Kent.
Most marriage records in Ontario give a lot of info, including place of birth and both parents' names. Richard's doesn't:

So not a child of Edwin.
Don't see any Ontario births (post-1869) or marriages (post-1859) of children of Edwin and Mary, or death of Edwin or Mary in Ontario. Could have been a different province.
The 1881 census at familysearch.org shows no Edwin Dengate.
Mind you ... I can't find Edwin in any English census either!
Anyhow, if you have any info that might help find the family in Canada, pass it on and we here may be able to point you somewhere useful.

Edwin Dengate born 1825 Wittersham, Kent. England
On 02 Jun 1851 he Married Mary Pearson ...in England
They emigrated to Canada . I have a photo he sent home to his sister...this was taken in Whitewater...he also sent one of his 2 daughters. He was a farmer.
Anyone in Canada who thinks they may be related?
