Jessie aka Maddies mate

Jessie aka Maddies mate Report 15 Apr 2008 21:38

Just walking through the thread so I can bookmark it to see how Gemma gets on ..................

My OH is in the same situation, has a name for birth father, rough age, and knows where he was from and where he was when my OH was born ( knows the town I should say not the address ) but that is all we have to go on.

Good luck Gemma................hope you find him

okay so I have just called the GRO - www.gro.gov.uk/
ordered a death certificate for :
Name: Catherine Cairns Long
Birth Date: 5 Sep 1922
Death Registration Month/Year: Mar 1988
Age at death (estimated): 65
Registration district: Southwark
Inferred County: London
Volume: 15
Page: 211

they are saying it is unlikely that there is an address on there but ive ordered all the same. . . so have 5 days to wait now.

has anyone on here done the same thing and got far ?

Gemma

Gemma Report 15 Apr 2008 19:12

Nicki Report 15 Apr 2008 18:24

Wow, that sounds exciting. What are you going to do? Phone? Write?

Post a request on an electoral roll thread and get them to check who lives there now. I will nudge up Jean's thread for you.

Edit - You have already posted on there - I would still add the address on there and Jean will pm you with who lives theres.

LONG, Catherine Cairns Southwark 1988 March (if this is her (and my best bet at the moment) then she died in the year above. My aunt confirms that she died when i was around 3 yrs.

Gemma

I think your start point should be the ordering of the death certificate. Do you know what year she died?

Gemma Report 15 Apr 2008 15:10

I have been given some names that could be my granma, is this a better way to go ordering her death cert or more likely to find David using the above ^^ website to order Davids Birth cert??

Gemma

Gemma Report 15 Apr 2008 14:21

this is not working for me! I am trying to order the birth certificate under the GRO bit and its asking me for a full birthdate, tried putting the year only like this:

00/00/1961

no luck with that!

https://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates/app_ew_birth_quoted.asp?APPLICATION_ID=5T6E7381A7IP4892E8256IX4GLXLRAYE7D

Can someone double check this as I do not want to get it wrong. Thanks

What about the salvation army - dont they try to trace people?

WayneTracey

WayneTracey Report 15 Apr 2008 06:53

They are the only 2 i would consider relevant, someone else is welcome to verify this for me!

I have also only looked for the years 1959 - 1961, as per Gemma's thought tht he's 47 - 49.
