There is this marriage in Kent? If its the right person then the certificate will give you his fathers name

I think this might have something to do with him seeing that there is A William Riddelsdell on the 1901 censor with him

Had a PM from Janet that said that on Lionel's marriage certificate he gives father as Webber Mitchell deceased publican.

Possible scenario

Mabel marries Martin Riddellsdel in 1880, Martin dies 1882.

Lionel born 1891 and is given the surname Riddellsdel which is his mum's legal name at that time,

Mabel then marries George Webber in 1896. Lionels biological father is possibly Mr Mitchell but Lionel uses both surnames on his marriage cert,

Hope that makes sense, maybe other members can shed some light or have a better idea.
