Deborah, same surnames in the same batch stand a chance of being related, but not necessarily. As Robert said, you need to get further evidence, dont just assume they are related. Check the census if possible to confirm details. Or if before census, you would need to find other evidence, baptisms to same parents etc. |

The batch # is tied to a particular parish register, so people with the same name are people who have been married (alt christened) in the same parish in the same block of time. In a lightly populated parish, the block could last for decades, but in, say Shoreditch, it might just last a few years (then we're onto a new batch #, typically just differing in the last digit). |
