Norah English m Michael Byron & Castleblake 99year

Miriam Report 20 May 2008 06:16

Norah was the daughter of unnamed English and her unnamed mother White. Norah and Michael Byron/Birrane had their family at Castleblake where the family had a 99year lease. When 'the English' would not renew the lease the family cane to Australia is 1863.

The names of their children are:
John Joseph - married Jane Brewster from Penola, S.A.
Johanna
MaryAnn
Michael
Brigid.

Johanna and MaryAnn travelled with their parents arriving in Melbourne in 1863.
I found John Joseph only because his parents and birthplace were listed on his death and marriage. I don't know when he came to Australia.
I assume that the younger children died before the family left Ireland as they are not mentioned on the shipping information.

I don't know if it was the Byron or English family who had the lease on Castleblake townland. The reference to 'the English' in the family story, could refer to her family or to an English landowner.
How could I find out about the lease of the land from the 1760's to 1860's?

Thanks in advance for your help.
