Burne family of Natal, South Africa. John Burne (b 1817) arrived in SA in 1824 from Ireland. He was in the military - 82nd Foot Regiment - travelling between SA and UK. In 1860's he settled in Umhlali on BURNDALE and served in Umhlali Rifle Guard. His 2nd wife - Isabella Tyson (born Isle of Man) - was postmistress in Umhlali. They had 12 children.
I am not able to confirm where John was born as there are many conflicting stories - Athlone, Kilcannuck.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
