Thanks to everyone who helped. Now have birth cert and it is the correct one. Name is Charles William tho he was known as William/Bill. Mother's maiden name shown as Susanna Durrant and father Charles William Martin as we thought. Again thanks Helen |

Thank you - have sent for birth cert which looks correct as I know he was born in Kennington. Now know that the supposed name change must have happened during or before 1869. Am keen to find out whether mother's maiden name was Durrant as we have been led to suppose - still cant find a marriage that fits in. Helen |

Should explain that the names of William's parents are supposed to have been changed.I dont know whether before or after 1871 census. So have assumed before but there is no obvious tie in with any of the info kindly given so am now stuck again. The 1881 census shows the parents by names (Charles and Susanna Martin) living in Gresse St London (occupation bootmaker) as we have always known them with William the eldest of their children but I cannot locate them under those names in 1871 census. Cannot find a marriage cert either. Should appreciate any advice on next step to take. |

WILLIAM MARTIN Please would a kind researcher look up 1871 census for any William Martin born 1869/70 in Kennington (as stated on 1881/1901 census returns) . In 1871 census would probably be residing in same area but could have moved north of the river to Finsbury area where his brother was born in 1872. Am anxious to trace parents names. Thank you |
