Yes, Pete is known to me, his half sister has recently divorced my cousin. (I have had to detatch his half of the tree as I got loads of leads to that and none to my direct line)

Still looking but no info as yet. I have noticed that if you use the 'search trees' facility on top of screen and put in Gertrude Wilson 1917 then along with yourself there is a Peter who has her in his tree, If he is not known to you then it may be worth giving him a contact.

I do not know whether they were married or if it was a coincidence or even a 'family scandal'. My Gt.Grandmothers maiden name was definately Wilson. Her father was James Wilson and her mother Elizabeth Durant, so the father could have been a relative or even just a name which was put on her marriage cert for 'looks'. BUT my Gt. Grandmother gave my grandmother a photo and said it was her father.

My grandmothers name was Gertrude Wilson born in Castlford, Yorkshire and her mother was Phylis Wilson Born in Normanton, Yorkshire

There is no record on Ancestry of a medal card for Ernest Wilson/Irish Guards.

Not all records survived, so that is not conclusive................

Lindsey - The only dates I have are my grandmothers birth which is Feb 1917 and her mothers birth @ 1888.
Reggie/Tracey - Yes I know lots of illegitimate children invent fathers but I do not believe this is the case with my grandmother, I spoke to her about this before her death and she said her mother told her about illegitimacy but she was not interested in the details at the time as the man who her mother married (William Walker) had brought her up from a very young age and, as far as she was concerned, was her father.

If he isn't named on the birth cert, you will have difficulty in proving that this individual was the child's father.

It may be that the mother gave her this man's name etc, but whether or not it was true is open for debate................

Do we have a possible date ?

I am trying to find my grandmothers father. He is not named on her birth certificate but is on her marriage cert. as 'Ernest Wilson, Corporal in Irish Guards. Killed in Battle.'
I have checked the war graves list etc. and contacted the Irish Guards Museum without any luck as I am unable to give any other information.
No body in the family seems to know where my grandmother got this name from but we do have a photo.
Can anyone help, PLEASE!!!
