My great grandmother was Jane Rebekah Green, b1885 in Weeley, Essex and lived in St Osyth before life in London, and then she died in 1903 in Twickenham, leaving her son an orphan at 17.
Jane was the youngest child of Robert and Sarah [nee Watkins] Green. The oldest child was John b 4 Apr 1845 and he married Catherine Jones and had 6 children. Next was Octavious b 28 Apr 1847 and he married Mary Ann Breen from Dublin region. They had 6 children also with some born in India. Their youngest was born back in Wales, Pembrokshire. After Octavious came Sarah Ann, b 1850. I haven't been able to track her down. She later was called just 'Ann'.
Robert had been a widower when he married Sarah - at least that is what the 1844 London [St Brides'] marriage certificate says, and hopefully that one does belong to our Robert & Sarah. I haven't been able to get anything much on their origins. On the 1851 census Robert is alive, but on the 1861 census Sarah is now a widow. I lose track of her after that. Sarah was born in Wales, in Breconshire, although she gave Radnorshire as the county on the census! Robert said on the 1851 census he was born in Ardleigh, Essex, but i've not found any record of that.
Any descendents out there please feel free to contact me. I would love that.
My paternal grandfather was George William, son of Jane and George Kemp. Jane first appeared on the 1881 census and working as 'Housekeeper' to my greatgrandfather's pub, The KIng's Head, at 8 Bow Road, Bromley by Bow. Later in 1881, they married. My father, Reginald is the older of two sons born to George William in 1919. The younger son, Len recently died in Melbourne, Australia.
My elderly father, now 89, says he can recall the day in the Depression era, ie before WW II, when his father George William showed him a lot of photos and papers revealing his English ancestry and heritage. None of this has come down to us. Apparently it was discarded by my grandfather. I am so disappointed. Jane may have had a daughter; her name was probably 'Rose', my father tentatively recalls. I haven't been able to track her down via census or the BMD indexes.
Anyway, hopefully there are some descendents out there who would be curious and contact me. Please do!
Regards, Julie Kemp Brisbane, Australia
