I sympathise Marguerita. Everything was shrouded in so much secrecy in that era. Names were not always mentioned especially if the mother moved away to lessen the 'shame ' of her parents. It was just whispered '"the father died in the war you know - no names no pack drill". I would love to have some idea of my mothers birth father's name - not even sure where they came from.

Do you know the name of the local boy that she was courting? If so check it out on the Commonwealth War Graves site here:

http://www.cwgc.org/

I would image a young man dying at that time was probably a casualty of war.

If your dad was baptised, the vicar may well have included possible father's name - check the local Parish Registers for where he was born. He would be listed as the illegitimate son of Hannah Dennis.
Good luck with this one - always hard to trace ...

You must know more, - why do you think he died - who told you? What names were mentioned?

How did he die? WW!? If you know a name you could check out deaths on freebmd or the complete bmd index.
