Find Ancestors

I'm looking for the birth record and 1881 census details of my GGrandfather Thomas Carter. The name of his father was William Carter age and birthplace unknown. The 1891 census shows place of birth as Cinderford Gloucester. The date of birth is illegible. His date of death was 1892. He was married to Mary Stephens in 1884 Pontypridd.

i was searching all over for a Thomas married to a Mary.

No wonder I couldn't find it.

Sorry, my fault - Alice Carter was christened
Mary Alice Stephens. It seems most of that side of the family were known by their middle names.

Do you have the Marriage cert? Was his father still alive when he married?

Yes have found the original. 26/3/1884 Pontypridd. Thomas 22, Mary Alice 18, both resident at Llwynpia. (Father) William, I think he was alive because Mary Alice's father is quoted as deceased. Both Thomas and William quoted as collier

He must be older than the transcribed age for 1891 because if that is his death Q1 1892 age 29, he must have been born 1862/3

Occ is labourer, 3 youngest children born Cinderford, all others Wiltshire.

I can't find a single Thomas Carter with a father named William in 1881 born around the right time.

I dont think its him as it quotes place of birth as hindley Lancashire. If my death details are correct he should be approx 19 years

I can't read the age on the 1891 census but the death in 1892 was 29 years.

I think the 1871 is a likely match, just father's occ different.

I have to go out now but will look for the family later if not found.
