For those that are interested........

I have found the death record for Emma - seemed that she reverted to her married name of Purr.

I've also traced the marriage for Ellen - she married a Wiiliam Davis and had 4 children. Unfortunately he was killed in WW1.

Still can't find anything for Albert though.

Thanks to everyone for your guidance and help.

No, I don't think so, Ann.

Their address on the 1901 census shows two other families living there too but with different names altogether (Green and Pickett).

were they living with someone else in 1901 and the enumerator used their name? Clutching at straws I know!

Thanks Ann.

No I've not yet looked at any Purr marriages for Albert nor Ellen, mainly because the 1901 census shows them all using the Allen name, and everything about Percy is in the name of Allen.

I'll look into this, though. Thanks again, Steve.

ps I have just found a marriage record for Ellen E Allen in 1910 in West Ham; I've cross-referenced it to a William Fardell and have come up with a couple of tree matches on GR. Awaiting responses from the owners!

presumably you have looked at this one?

Marriages Dec 1907
PURR Albert Lewisham 1d 1936

sorry I misread the surname previously

Hello Julie,

Yes I have, and on Ancestry too. No matches, I'm afraid.

There are quite a few marriage records for an Ellen Allen from 1903 and 1930 (she would have been aged between 18 and 35) and a couple look possibilities so I'll have to obtain the certs and see if these help.

I've drawn a complete blank on Albert though - no marriage, death or WW1 records that tie up.

Have you done a name search on this site to see if anyone has them in their tree

Thanks Ann, but Joel was a Purr not an Allen.

Why couldn't Emma have changed her name to something less common!?

Ellen, Albert and Percy Allen were siblings all born in Hoddesdon Herts (1885, 1887 and 1889) under the surname Purr. Their parents were Joel Purr and Emma Spurgin. I believe Joel died in c1890 and Emma either re-married or simply changed her name. The last record I can find for Emma, Ellen and Albert is the 1901 census where they all lived in Islington under the surname Allen.

Percy was my Gt Grandfather and he married and lived in Islington so his siblings may have stayed in or around that area too.

Any help to find descendants or records after 1901 would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks, Steve
