Hi Mavis, I think you have found who/what Ive been looking for, my grandad was born at 9 Pigott street, but I have been unable to locate any info for this address, YOU ARE BRILLIANT!!!! There has been some confusion over his birth year, one document I have says 1901 and another says 1900, so it may well be that he has been left off this entry on this census. Thank you what can I d now????

This looks like his brother's birth cert. Admittedly they may not have the same mother - but at least it would give you dad's name and occupation and another address:

Hi Jill, Thanks for your reply, but I cannot find a birth registration for my grandad....I think this might be my problem!! I dont know my grans maiden name and I cannot find the address in london that they were supposed to have lived. However, I did find another Carter family living in the same street but different house number, in the 1851 census, and that seems to be my only lead at the moment. Thanks again

Karen.

Not sure that 1901 census is correct - unless William's date of birth is incorrect. The image definitely says 2 years old and Clara at 10 months is more likely to have been born in Jun/Jul 1900 than William was.

I think if you don't have his birth cert you do need to order it.

Also, you can check your grandmother's name from your mum or dad's birth cert (depending which branch your dealing with). That way, you can find your grandparents' marriage cert and then that will enable you to double-check info on their fathers (and their occupations) on their ages - to help locate their birth records at least if not the 1901 census info.

Do try and work backwards from what you know for sure - and have proof of.

Karen Report 26 Jul 2008 16:42

Hi All, Can anyone help, I am trying to locate information on my grandfathers family and have hit a brick wall. His name is William Charles Carter born 30.6.1900 at Pigott Street, Limehouse, London. He has at least two brothers, Richard Frederick 12.03.1907 and another brother whose name I dont know, but who emigrated to Canada as a young man, and as far as I know may well still be alive. I cannot trace any records for my grandfather or grandmother, whose name was Amy Lillian or the other brother and dont know where to go next!! I have two addresses in Canada but dont know how to trace information on them. Can anyone help me please, I would be very grateful!!

Regards

KAREN
