Trying to find William Scott

I'm stuck, please can you help with two common surnames?

I have the original marriage certificate for my G,G, Grandparents. I am finding it hard to find the census info on the 1871 for the father John Scott and I think I may also have the wrong birth certificate for William now.
. .
Marriage Certificate,
Dec 4th 1870 Parish of Holy Trinity, Haverstock Hill, Middlesex.

William Scott 23yrs, Bachelor, occup Carman, 24 Prince of Wales Rd, father John Scott, occup Shoreman.

Charlotte Taylor 18yrs, Spinster, 15 Hartland Rd, father Thomas Taylor, occup Stonemason.

If anyone can help me go any back further, I would much appreciate it.
Thanks Diane

The father may have been dead by 1871 - he may even have been dead at the time of the marriage.

Have you found William in 1851 and 1861?

Hi Jill,
No I couldn't be sure with 1861, as the place of birth had changed. I think I was getting muddled with another William. My family mainly come from the St Pancras area, especially Kentish Town. I've had no
luck with the 1851 census.
