William Lewis Chantrell b. 1828 was an equestrian performer and acrobat, as was his wife, his three daughters and, I believe, his son, William James Chantrell (b. 28 July, 1859). There are posters to be found on the web of The Chantrell Family and Herr Chantrell, ‘patronized by royalty’: also I have found a photograph of the family.

On 20 December 1916 Thomas William Chantrell was born, the son of a trapeze artiste, and he died on 15th July 2001. This information I have obtained from his obituary in the Guardian, also on the internet. I am wondering whether William James Chantrell could have been Thomas Chantrell’s grandfather.

I need to get copies of certificates but I haven’t the information. Could anyone help, please?

You're right, Selena. You've got the right family. Now I'd like to follow up William James Chantrell, whose birth cert. I have, and see whether I get to Tom Chantrell (the one in the Guardian obituary) and the son of the trapeze artiste.

I think you will have to buy Tom's birth cert 1917 to see if his father is William James and William's marriage 1898 to see if his father is William Lewis.

Seems like Charles Cuppin and Charles Crippen could be same person.
