I used to live in Newmarket and Dullingham was only just up the road from us. Our local paper is online www.newmarketjournal.co.uk, you could easily either write to their letter page asking for Info or about the story in the old newmarket journal Archives.It won`t cost you anything and believe me there are still loads of old families in and around Dullingham who would be eager to tell the tail.

I am trying to find out about Thomas Allen who married Rachel Marsland. A very distant cousin has recently sent me a copy of an Inquest Report into the death of Thomas. From what I can make out (it is very old, faded and the language is difficult to understand) he shot himself in the hand (accidentally) with a old flint house pistol. This did not kill him but shot off some fingers.

The paperwork is dated 11th august 1854 and it states that the person giving the report is a Edmund Carvey and that the information was given under oath in front of the Coroner David King.

From what I understand he died in Addenbrookes Hospital.

Any information would be great. Unfortunately I do not have a copy of his death certificate but would like to know what he died of and whether the shooting incident contributed to it.
