I am searching for any record of my Husbands Great Grandfather Alfred James Turner born c1875 in stockport. I have his marriage certificate which shows he married Theresa Yates c1877 in 1899 in Aston Birmingham where they remained, living first in Wainright St and later at 21 Gladstone St.

My husbands Grandfather also Alfred James was born in 1904, he possibly had siblings named John, Margaret and Walter whom my mother-in-law can remember and I have discovered from the1901 census that Alfred and Theresa also had a daughter Agnes c1900 who may or may not have survived.

I cannot find any other census records relating to Alfred James Turner c1875 nor can I find a birth index record or even confirm a death.

I would greatly appreciate any help as I am at a complete standstill.

If you do not have it, you should try to get his marriage certificate, that will tell you his father's name (assuming that he was not illegitimate!)

It is possible that Stockport was not his actual place of birth, but a village/neighbourhood nearby!

Thanks Sylvia,

I hadn't considered the birthplace being nearby rather than exact, do you know of any way I could find out which villages were nearby at the time?
