If you had bought his marriage certificate to either wife you would have had his fathers name and occupation.

You can look up births, marriage and death GRO refs free on freebmd.org and then buy the cert from GRO online for £7.

When you ask for help please give ALL information that can help, like dates, places, ages etc.

Looking at that census, you can see Sam and Flo's eldest child is 4 years old. Allowing for a year either way - you can work backwards to 5 or 6 years before her year of birth and using freebmd look for a likely marriage between a Samuel Ward and a Florence in the right area. I have done this and the likely marriage is
Marriages Jun 1896
>>>Fenton Florence Birmingham 6d 62 Scan available - click to view
Johnson William Birmingham 6d 62 Scan available - click to view
RIGHTON Kate Birmingham 6d 62 Scan available - click to view
>>>Ward Samuel Birmingham 6d 62

You could do that for yourself, go to freebmd and practice now. Also it seems likely this is the right couple but to be absolutely sure you could buy your direct ancestors birth cert for Florences full maiden name and then buy the marriage cert for both fathers names, occupations and other valuable info.

Try looking for your Williams birth ref on freebmd using his year of birth take or add a year and the area.
