Please don't forget that Death Cert info is supplied by someone other than the deceased!!!!
In other words it is not always accurate!
Many people told whoppers especially about their age when immigrating.

How do you know she was born in Sparkhill?
Have you got your father's birth certificate? When and where was he was born?
Have you checked the Australian Electoral Rolls - many are available on Ancestry at your local library.
Are there any clues on the marriage cert to Mr Sparks?
Where did Ellen live in Australia?
Did your father have any siblings?
Australian certs have much more info than those from the UK so you should have clues from searching the Indexes online anbd buying a few key ones - it'll be much easier tracking back once you get to the 1901 census.

Good luck - yell out if you want some help!

1901 Census

Name: Ellen Ward
Age: 4
Estimated Birth Year: abt 1897
Relation: Daughter
Father's Name: Albert E
Mother's Name: Francis
Gender: Female
Where born: Birmingham, Warwickshire, England

Civil Parish: Yardley
Ecclesiastical parish: Sparkhill St John the Evangelist
Town: Sparkhill
County/Island: Warwickshire
Country: England

Household Members: Name Age
Albert E Ward 27 Occ Gun Maker
Ellen Ward 4
Elva M Ward 11 months
Emily F Ward 3
Francis Ward 25

I would suggest that it is unlikely she would have travelled to Aus on her own.... have you searched for other members of her family of the family name of Ward?

The question confuses me...

It appears you have the death certificate of an Ellen Ladd c1897 whose maiden name was Ward.

Maybe you could clarify.

For info Sparkhill was in the Aston District pre 1924 and Birmingham South post 1924.
