It would appear that Thomas Hill married Hannah Grove in Stourbridge in 1850, Oct/Dec quarter ref. 18 701. They had Jesse Grove Hill in 1852, Apr/June quarter, ref. 6c 202.

I think that Thomas Hill then married Emma Bashford in Dudley 1859, Oct/Dec quarter, ref. 6c 20.

The 1871 census should read that Joseph E. Bashford and Sarah Bashford are step children and not son-in-law and daughter-in-law.

I will carry on looking for Thomas in the earlier censuses.
