Find Ancestors

He was born in Gladsmuir, East Lothian, Scotland .. at 5:00 am on June 12th 1859. He was the fourth child of David Montgomery and Jean/Jane Hislop. David Montgomery registered him
Thereafter there is no trace!
I have tried census and death records. Scotland and England.
His mother did leave David Montgomery, his alleged father, pre 1862 and went to live in England with one Robert Murdoch (calling himself Pettigrew ... his mother's maiden name)
There is no evidence that Jane took any of her Scottish offspring with her.
Could I be missing something? Another pair of eyes would be most welcome.

Do you have the birth cert...is that where the above info is from? Do you have no sighting of him at all? Were David and Jean/Jane married? Did David die?

Thank you for your interest.Yes, the birth information I have is from a Scottish Birth Certificate.

No, after the birth I can find no further records of any sort!

David Montgomery and Jane Hislop were married in 1850, in East Lothian, Scotland. I have seen this certificate on Scotland's people. David was 20 years Jane's senior.

David Montgomery died in Tranent Scotland in October 1870, age 66. I have the certificate.

The 'husband' of Jane would be either David Montgomery OR Robert Murdoch (quite probably calling himself Pettigrew) ... Not Robert Montgomery!!!
Jane Heslop, who is almost certainly the Jane/Jean Hislop of Tranent Scotland, .. turned up in Jarrow, Durham, in January 1862 on the birth certificates of her twin daughters, Sarah and Margaret Pettigrew. The father being named as Robert Pettigrew; who was actually Robert Murdoch, born Stair Scotland 1829. Pettigrew was his mother's maiden name.
Jane called herself Pettigrew in 1862 but I have no evidence that they were married. David Montgomery was still alive in 1862.
Jane and Robert may have finally married in the 1880s and I await a marriage certificate with fingers crossed but I digress; this does not help me with the disappearance of Robert Murdoch Montgomery from the records.

Matches an entry in 1851 with wife Jane

That's David Montgomery, Jane Hislop's husband and Christina was one of their four children born 25th May 1854. David, their first, had been born in 1852, Seton was born in January 1857 and died in November 1858 and Robert Murdoch Montgomery was born in 1859.
Where was Robert M, age 2, at the time of that 1861 Census???
But also, where was Jane for that matter? And which name did she use? (I've tried Montgomery, Hislop, Heslop, Pettigrew, Petticrew and Murdoch against the 1861 census; with no luck).
David Montgomery died in 1870, age 66. Jane Hislop is listed as his wife but she was long gone and living in Durham with five more children.

Jane Montgomery formerly Hislop was born to Christopher Hislop and Agnes Wilson on 29/10/1826.
in East Lothian (Haddingtonshire) Scotland.

I only know of Scotland's people, as a way of tracing deaths in Scotland.
Is there any other route/site?
Robert Murdoch Montgomery's, seemingly total disappearance, would suggest to me that he died? But I can find no evidence that he did!
