I am trying to find information on my G Grandfather George Cook from Glanford Brigg. He had a brother Henry and a sister Rose. Henry was a cobler in Doncaster and Rose married and had at least one daughter Carry.
George married Gertrude Priestley from Ecclesall they had seven children, including my Nana Lillian.
Can anyone help me?

It's always best to mention what info you are looking for as it is very frustrating when helpers spend several hours researching ancestors only to be told "I have all that I want to know what happened to them after 1918".

You give no dates but, if you haven't got this already, could this be George and Gertrude marriage which would give his father's name and occupation? Surname First name(s) District Vol Page

Hi Angi
Yes sorry the Cooks I am looking at are from Lincolnshire and Sheffield. Brigg seems to be the center although my G Grandmother Priestley comes from the Sheffield area.
Thanks

Hi David
Yes I know I am being abit unhelpful sorry. George Cook was married to Gertrude and I know the children, as my Nana Lillian was one of them, three died of the flu in c1919 leaving Zena, Reg, Winifred and Lillian.
I know that George and Gertrude were married in 1907, but I am struggling to go back any further. I have found Gertrude's family, with no Gertrude in it?! I cannot find a trace of her at all. The belief is that she was born c1883 named Gertrude Lillian? Priestley but there is no record her her on the census'.
George Cook was born in 1883 and I would like to know more about his heritage. I know that he was from Lincolnshire - Brigg and that he owned a shop, but I would like to know more about his brothes and sisters and parents, grandparents.
He is on the 1901 census but is a lodger.
Any information would be useful. I am new to this and may sound a bit vague.
Thankyou for your help
Beth

Hi Beth
The marriage is from FreeBMD which is free to search (link below). Do you have it and her father's name and occupation?

Ordering the cert from here:
http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/
Should give you his fathers info (mentioned before) and help people pinpoint him on previous census.
£7 well spent in my view.

You say in 1901 he is a lodger. Where and who with?
What was his occupation?
The Broughton one mentioned above was a Cabinet Makers Apprentice and was visiting William and Mary J Rolinson in 1901.

Hi Gillian
This is definately the right family and now I can understand why Gertrude was not on the cenus I was looking at as she was living away.
But who is G Wortley? I know she married my G Grandfather in 1907 his name was George Cook so where does G Wortley come in? I hope sounds very mysterious!
Thank you for helping me so far.

Hi David
I have the information that in 1901, George Cook was living as a lodger with Mary Knipe, 59 Widow at the address 3 Princess Street, Glanford Brigg. He was a cabinet maker's apprentice, but then went to to own a shop in the Market Square inBrigg which sold haberdashery I think. He had several girls working for him.
In 1907 he married my G Grandmother Gertrude Priestley but I have just been informed today that Gertrude may also have married a G Wortley?!
I believe that George was born to a Thomas Cook b1845 and a Hannah ? b? I believe that Thomas was a shoemaker. I am not too sure about any more of the family and would be interested in any siblings and to see how far back I can go.
Thanks
Beth

Where are you getting the G Wortley from?
Is it from Gillian' post above?
"Gertrude Lilian Priestley b 1885 Mar Q Wortley"
If so, I believe you are misunderstanding - this is the birth ref for Gertrude b 1885 March Quarter in Wortley (West Ridings of Yorkshire)
