I am trying to trace my grandfathers roots. I have his WW1 discharge papers, he died in c1977. Married to Martha (Humphries, nee Ludlow). I believe they were both married previously, but had the following children together ; Pam (b c1936), Ronald (b 1938), Margaret (b c1940), Maureen (b c1942) and Valerie (b c1950 d 2008). Both Thomas and Martha were born in London, and lived in Essex after WW2

I believe his date of birth may be incorrectly listed on his army records

Nudge for Gary -

do you have his marriage certificate to his second wife?

Getting the certificate will tell you who his father was, then you can find them both on the 1901. Also will help confirm first marriage.

The only information I have is from his WW1 discharge papers. He was a private in Duke of Cornwall Regiment, No. 11974 Rank Private. According to his papers he declared a DoB of 2/9/1894. Lambeth, near London in the county of Surrey.

We believe that he was married before meeting my grandmother Martha Ludlow. This is the mystery we are struggling to breakdown, his past life was kept to himself??

His middle names may help, John "Raspury" (not sure of spelling), we don't know if this was a nickname or a old family name.

I suggest you get his marriage certificate to Martha.

On his discharge papers, does it give a next of Kin?

No one at all on FreeBMD with first name or surname Raspury - a few RasBury surnames

Interesting marriage here - maybe his parents? Need an 1891 to see who married who.

I now know that my grandfather was born 15th March 1892, we belive he had siblings and believe there would have been brothers. We understand that his father may also have had the same name (e.g. Thomas John Raspbury Haynes), therefore another Thomas JR Haynes would have been born c1850?-c1870?
We also know my grandfather was married twice (2nd wife my grandmother was Martha Humphries born 1906.
