I have been following this Henry but I CANNOT link him to Percy (unless Percy was the son of his second wife Florrie and I can't find a marriage for her to Henry to find her name............ dratt !!!!.

Perhaps someone else can link them?

Been looking for possible Percy Wright and Mary Ann Murphy. Nothing showing so far. With fathers both deceased its possible they were in 1901.

I have even looked for Henry Wright gun maker in 1881.
Looks like a long search needed checking every Henry Wright in any area who is a gun maker. It might be Mary Ann isnt with her family. Then looking for Caroline might help but father a general labourer can bring up plenty of possibilities.

Also with a name like Murphy she could be born in Ireland and not on the 1901 census at all

Can you take another look at the witness name Pouriday. Never heard of that and no birth,marriage,death or census for the name

That is all the information that you get on an English marriage certificate.

Your next step is to try to find each of them on an earlier census with a father with the same name as that on the certificate ..... you do have the added benefit of one of the witnesses probably being a sister.


That gives you the approximate age, and the census will also say at least the county of birth.



Nothing comes easy in chasing up your family!! It all takes time and effort.

the marriage took place in st pancras London,the streets are also in London

dear wendy and lindsey thanks for your replies,I do have the marriage certificate and i have worked out the age also both fathers names are on the marrisge certificate. The problem I am finding is I have nothing else to go on so how can i get birth certificate when i dont even know possible area of births.

It is perfectly normal for those times to just make a mark if they were not schooled.What district was the marriage ?

if you got their marriage certificate ,you can work out how old they were .then you look for their birth certificate.on that should be their parents..and where they were living..

Trying to find out what I can about my great grandparents also great great grandparents.I have the marrigae certificate of my great grandparents.Which is 1st July 1908 st pancras Percy wright age 28yrs railway goods porter living at 7 Archer street father Henry Wright (deceased) Gun maker.Mary ann Murphy age 32yrs living at 129 Bayham street father john murphy (deceased) general labarour.There was two witnesses caroline murphy percy pouriday last name unsure of.There has been talk that Mary had a sight problem on the marriage certificate mary has not signed it is just the mark of mary murphy.I dont know how to get the imformation from the marrige certificate ie not knowing births etc an di wish to follow the rest up can any help,Idont even know is there is anymore siblins i have tried the electrol regist also .
