Hello everyone,

Does anyone know how common it was that people didn't register the births of their children in the early 1900's ?

Would they have been able to get married without having birth certificates ?

Before 1838 you may find their baptisms on Family search.com
You still dont have to provide a birth cert to get married today

Yes they could marry without proof if they said or claimed to be over 21,,,,,

99.9 all births would be registered in the early 1900..they may of course be missed out of the GRO indexing but wil be in the local register office where the birth was registered ..

perhaps it could be under the mothers maiden name or in the next quartley indexing,?

I've tried the next quarterly index, but I don't know the mother's maiden name which is why i need the certificate. If I was to contact the register office with his full name and date of birth - do you think they'd be able to find a certificate ?

I've already had people searching for me Wayne/Tracey but none of what they've come up with makes any sense. But thanks for the offer. :o)

if you are certain you know where the birth was registered ,have full DOB.at least a parents name then the local register office maybe willing to supply the certificate,,,some are a bit grouchy and dont,they make you send to GROSouthport,,,,,,,,!!

I think I'll give them a try at least. I've got nothing to lose by asking and I need to know for sure whether he's there or not ! :o)
