Very true! The Trying to Find board has been brilliant and given me loads to go on when I have time to do more myself. All much appreciated.
cheers, Linda

GR isnt much help as it doesnt show family groups and you can spend a lot of money buying the wrong images from them.
With the invention of the pneumatic tyre theres not much call for the wooden wheel these days!
Unless you want to buy a subscription to ancestry it is easier to ask on the trying to find board for help, although it does take the fun out of doing it yourself.
Hopefully if you add these people to your tree you may find someone who connects to your family?

That's brilliant - thank you so much. I'm baffled as to why when I've searched censuses via Genes Reunited, it tells me there are no matches when quite clearly the names are there after all! Very irritating! No I haven't got the marriage certificate but was wondering whether to send for it. I think it must be the right one as when I checked the births index there was only one Annie Eveline Warner. My mother-in-law must have been mistaken when she thought they were married at St Andrews, Leytonstone - she probably assumed that as they lived in the parish. Interesting that the Halls were all practical men - carpenters, builders etc - the skill unfortunately did not come down to my father-in-law or my husband!! But maybe something to do with the fact that after Annie died George withdrew into his shell and didn't really talk much to poor little 6 year old Laurie, so certainly wouldn't have passed on his skills. So, I'll get the marriage certificate so I can try and trace the Warner family back.

It would help if you put one of the census up that you have found them ?

Linda Report 25 Sep 2008 01:27

Hi,
I'm trying to track down my husband's father's elusive family. I've got George Hall, born 1871 in either Pilsley, Derbyshire (1901 census) or what looks like Ragnall or Bagnall, Notts (1891 census). George married Annie Eveline Warner, born 1877 Hackney and they married at St Andrew's, Leytonstone. She died in 1921. George's father was William Hall, born c1840 in Coddington, Notts, wife Mary born 1845 in Hucknall, Notts. William's mother Mary is shown as a widow in the 1851 census, born Coddington 1815. And that's all I've been able to find - none of them figure in censuses apart from what I've listed above and I've hit a complete brick wall. So if anyone knows anything about any of them we'd be very grateful!
cheers, Linda
