Find Ancestors

My grandmothers birth certificate shows her mother as Adeline Beatrice James born 1887, but I cannot find any trace of her birth in that year or any sign of her in the 1901 census. She was probably born in Swansea, West Glamorgan.

Does she really exist? Can anyone help?

Where did you get her birth year from? I've never seen a mother's date of birth shown on a childs birth certificate before.

This is the only Adeline B coming up in Wales...but her age is out by 4-5 years.

Edit: Looking on the image she is 13, not 18.

Thank you everybody. I don't know how you all do that, that quickly. My Adeline James did marry a John Davies, so I think Gwyn has got the right one.

Christina - maybe that wsn't where I got the 1887 from then?

My Grandmother seems to think that Adeline parents were a Robert James and Mary Elizabeth (James), but she does have some memory problems. Do you think it could be William instead then, Glitter baby?

Why is there such a difference in the estimated birth year between the 1891 and 1901 census when the family members look the same?

There isn't a difference. Adeline is 13 on the image in 1901, but it is badly written and has been mistranscribed as 18.

Thanks Christina. For some reason I have been given Adeline's Birth Date as 08/12/1887. That must be by my Nanna again, but there definitely isn't anything for that is there?

The birth registration that both Glitter Baby and Lancashire Ann found for you is the correct one.

The birth would have been registered between 1 January 1888 and 31 March 1888.

Births could be registered up to about 6 weeks after the child was born.

So a birth registration that says Mar 1888, means that the birth was registered some time during the 1st quarter of the year. It doesn't necessarily mean that that was when the child was born.
