Find Ancestors

I am trying to research my father's side of the family and have come up against a brick wall !!. Depending on which certificate I look at my grandfather's name was either William Herbert or
Charles Herbert but I do know he married a Emma Jones in Western Lullingfield Shropshire and might have been born in Bolton Lancashire. His father might have been Thomas Davies born in Shewsbury but at some stage might have been living in Farnworth Lancashire.
It is all very vague, if someone can help me I would be very grateful.

please give some dates so the helpers have an idea WHEN to go on

Hi, Thanks for the reply, and I said it is all very vague.The oldest date I have is the marriage of my grandfather to a Emma Jones in 1909 at Western Lullingfield.His father was Thomas Davies. I have found one Thomas Davies with a chlid called William H living in Farnworth Lancashire. This was in the 1891 census. Does any of this help. Please let me know.

these are the only births to fit his timescale and they are all in shropshire,everything else was too far off your areas
theres only one for a charles herbert davies and thats in islington london.
the most likely one is the 1884 as its nearest to the only william i could find with father thomas ,coal miner,

William is a coal miner on the 1901 but he could well have changed his occupation in the next 8 years.

Hi, Thanks for all the information, you certainly have been active, However I don't think you found my William Herbert.
I have his marriage certificate' details as follows;
Date - April 12 1909
William Herbert Davies age 26
Father - Thomas Davies - Collier
Bride - Emma Jones age 26
Father - John Jones - Labourer
Place - Western Lullingfield Shorpshire
Witness - Albert Davies**
The reason I starred Albert Davies, is that I had quite a job finding W H in the 1901 census, but did find a W H who had a brother called Albert and father Thomas. So I took it that this was my W H who had his brother called Albert who was a witness at his wedding, and do know that my grandmother, W H wife was called Emma.
So using this 1901 census as the correct people, W H was born in Bolton Lancashire, although in the 1891 census with the same family members he was listed as born in Farnworth Lancashire.
I did find a fantastic web site run by lancs FHS, which listed many churches in the county and details of births, marriages and deaths, and found the babtisum details of a W H and Albert, but the surname used was Davis. Also they were babtised on the same date although in my findings there were 5 yrs diference in their ages.
All a mystery.

You are probably right but the ,thomas ,you have for the father was a ,house painter, on all the censuses
Have you also considered that *Albert*maybe a cousin?

Here is an emma with father john ,general labourer,and just up the road from Weston lullingfields shropshire as its known today
Its also not that far off Dawley and most people married then at the place nearest their own house if possible.
I know her age is off a bit but by very little.
