I think the name on the 1851 census is Elvery.

Thanks Irene, I'll check them out.

I still can't find them in the census records though (1841 for Sarah Snr and 1861 onwards for Sarah & John Eleory or its various spellings!

Anyone help?

Several Ellerys in Kent on FreeBMD perhaps the numerator spelt the name wrong. Irene

There is a Sarah Allen registered at Dartford June 1850 who might be your Sarah. Irene

Hi Diddydoris!

Sarah Allen was born abt 1838 in Bexley, Kent
Emma Allen was born abt 1851 in Bexley, Kent (she went on to marry Edward Latter Scotcher)

It's quite a gap between Sarah and Emma to be, as they put it, bastards. But I suppose they were no different then as they are now!

Hi,
I'm really hoping someone can help me track down Sarah Allan (Allen)

Sarah was born abt 1819 in Bexley, Kent according to the one census record I can find her in.
She is listed as married to John Eloery born abt 1813 in Brenchley, Kent.
Her two children, Sarah and Emma (Emma's line is the one I'm tracing) are listed with the surname Allan and are also 'bastards' according to the census record, that is why I'm presuming that Sarah Snr. is also Allan.

The problem is I can't find Sarah and John on any census record other than 1851, nor can I find Sarah on the 1841 census.

I know surnames are often misspelled but I'm now at the stage of complete mental breakdown trying different combinations of spelling!!

Can anyone help me find any details about her and her family?

I'd be very grateful if you can help me.

Gary
