so Mary not Marie
Do u have Grandparents marriage giving wifes maiden name? If Maries birth was after Sept 1911 then maiden name will be on the birth index

Thank you all for such prompt replies. She was born a Baker and did not marry AFAIK. I think Deborah may have found her - I was concentrating on the Thakeham entries. Perhaps there was a cottage hospital or something in the Steyning Parish.
Thank you everyone.

Perhaps you may find more info about her if you get the death cert?

Through the generous help of the Parish Clerk in Ashington (Sussex) I have discovered my grandparent's headstone upon which is also marked "Marie Baker died July 21st 1933". I have traced what appears to be her entry in the Deaths Register and that gives her age at death of 22 (Steyning 2b 354).
But can I find her Birth entry......can anyone give me a clue as to what else I should be looking for? AFAIK all births occured in the Thakeham Parish
TIA
Pete
