Thanks for all your help and suggestions Lindsey. I'm going to take your advise but first I have to track down John Jones who might not even have the middle name Frazer after all. I think we have Esther located so I'm half way there. Thanks again.

I would strongly recommend buying their marriage certificate as the only way forward, It will take all the guesswork out of this,
It should name their parents and witnesses could well be related.
They may well have moved to Liverpool before leaving the country .
The census shows many Jones families living in the same area, none of them have Frazer as a middle name, perhaps that was added later

There must be another Esther Nutt married to a John Jones out there because the Jones's I'm looking for were definatly in Australia in January 1850. I noticed that there are three children as well and my Esther only had one child and was pregnant with her second at the time of her death. Also she was 27 when she died and this census shows Esthers' age being 36. Who would have thought there could be two families with the exact first and last names. I'll have to look further at the Irish connection. Thanks anyway.

Thanks so much for your effort Lindsey.
The marriage in the IGI index is the one that I had found as well but the info that came with it has John b 1825 and Esther b 1830 which put the dates out. Someone in our group also discovered a census record that had them still living in England past 1850 when they were in Australia.

Your second post is makes sense. I had guesstimated that John and Esther were born around the 1820's. do you know if Hereford in near Liverpool by any chance?

The John James that you have found unfortunatly in to old. It is said that he was only 14 months old when he left England and that was 1849-1850 so his date of birth would have to be 1847 at the earliest.

I'm thinking that the marriage in the IGI could be correct but the dates of birth on the info given to me might be wrong. The DOB that you have come up with would be right as well so the picture fits that way. I don't suppose you had seen or could check a later census to see if this couple were still in England after 1849? What are the chances of there being two John Jones and an Esther Nutt?

Thanks again for your time and speedy responce. Much appreciated.

Being too young to marry this may well be them living together.

You will find Jones families living on either side of this couple, it says that John was born in the county and is an ag. lab.

Does anyone have any info on a John Jones marring an Esther nee(Nutt) and have a child John James Jones? I am working off a story that John and pregnant Esther Jones traveled to Australia with their 14 month old son John James aboard the Diadem that landed in Port Phillip in 1850. Esther died aboard the ship. My Gr gr gr gr Grand mother Eliza Christie was aboard the same ship and ended up marring John Jones and living some what happily ever after. Along with this story I was given information that Esther's maiden name was Nutt. I have information that a John Frazer Jones b 1825 Liverpool England and Esther Nutt b 1830 England married in Kinnersly Hereford England in 1846 but cencus reports but the dates and cencus reports make them unlikely to be the correct people. I have a record of Esther Jones on board the Diadem at the age of 27 so that makes her b c 1823. I also have records of John Jones and family being on board the Diadem for that trip and Eliza as well. so I can confirm the story that they all came over on the same boat but can't get pass this point. If I could find the marriage information for John and Esther I should get his parents names. John could have been born in Armagh Ireland but I'm not sure as other certificates consistantly say he was born in Liverpool England. So if anyone has heard this story or recognises the details of the story I would love to hear from you.

Regards
Tracey
