My Gt Grandfather Onslow Charles Henry Clarke was born in Edinburgh 1852.
I would love to get his birth certificate but am having trouble.
Can anyone suggest anything. I think his father was in the army so must have been stationed in Edinburgh and not lived there.

It is possible that his birth wasn't registered - it wasn't compulsary until 1875.

In Scotland the Statuatory Birth Registration didn't start until 1855 so there would only be a christining

Thankyou both that is very interesting.
I suppose i would have to know the name of the church to find out a christning.

Parish Records are listed in the IGI on Family Search and Scotlands People. I couldn't see him on either.
