MARRIAGE - LOUISA ALLEN/ JAMES LOVERIDGE SOUTH AUS

Wondering if anyone has knowledge of this marriage. Louisa nee Allen came to SA on the ship "Charlotte Gladstone" arriving in 1866. I believe it left Liverpool on 17th June that year. She was born c 1850 in England and died 21.6.1929.

In 1868 she had a child Alfred James Allen (father unknown) but by the time of her next child in 1872 Mary Ann Hester, both James and Louisa are listed as the parents, as with their subsequent children. My assumption is they married between the end of 1868 and before 1872.

I applied to the SA Registry Office for a 10 year search from 1/1/1868 but this came back with a "NO RECORD" result.

Would really appreciate if anyone can help to solve this mystery???

THanks. Liza

Yes Phillip, it is my family. Is it yours also?

I have had a lady in SA searching all her data and she also can find no record of the marriage. I had another message overnight saying they married about 1871 but I was wondering whether this is just an assumption, the same as I have made - i.e. between Alfred James' birth in Nov 1868 and the birth of their first child in 1872 - and that leaves the small window of time of 3 years 1869,1870 or 1871.

Can you enlighten me further? and why can't the Registry Office locate it then?

Regards. Liza
