he was previously in Australia leaving in 1917 to work in munitions in England. returning in 1919.

Myee G I E HOWARTH was born in Redfern district NSW in 1896 (reg 25041) to Wm L [Louis?, b. 1864 Campbelltown, d. 1940 W'gong] & Eliza Jane (nee GOODFELLOW, b. 1874 Berrima, d. 1934 W'gong).

Can't find her death, she may have remarried.

In the 1881 census Byron W ROBERT [sic] is aged 21, unmarried, a clerk (b. Westminster, Middlesex) and living with widowed mother Susannah (54, b. Dorchester Dorset) and siblings Derwent E (18, b. Westminster Middlesex), Percy (15, b. Lambeth Surrey) and Archie (12, Bromley Middlesex).

Looks like a birth for Byron Wm Barnard ROBERTS in Jun qu 1860 in Westminster, Middlesex.

Susannah is a grocer & Derwent is an insurance agent, and they are living in Centaur St, Portsea, Hampshire.

This fits with Byron snr's 1888 marriage in Hampshire.

The 1901 census shows him living in Tunwells Kent aged 41 as a 'domestic machinery dealer' with sons Byron Wm aged 10, Bert aged 9 and Reginald E aged 12 (all b. Sussex Chichester). No sign of Emma but I don't have full access. Maybe someone who has can see if he was widowed?
