	josephine, Have you got the marriage cert of John? My father was in the army when he married my mum and the cert included his service number, there may be service records relating to him if you are lucky, which should tell you his place of birth and next of kin etc. Ann

Member Since: April 2005 Posts: 43 Send Message	Hi Tania - yes - the others are Daphne Janet 1933 (my mum) and Reginald 1917 - The date of Reginald's birth suggests he was conceived before John and Dorothy married - the register of Reginald's birth is handwritten and has an unusual notation which i have been unable to find the meaning of

Andy - thanks - that is the birth certificate - his father is deceased on birth certificate so couldnt take that further. Mum has no knowledge of where he originated from - John and Dorothy separated when mum was very young and she has no contact with her siblings now - so brick walls everywhere - but i am determined to do my best to find the info Jo

	Your post doesn't give surname, so I'm assuming this is the marriage Surname First name(s) Spouse District Vol Page -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Marriages Jun 1917 (99%) -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Sawyer Dorothy A Wright Reading 2c 692 Wright John T Sawyer Reading 2c 692 This is a common name. The marriage cert should have fathers name and occuoation to help in 1901 census search. As he married in WW1 he could have been born anywhere. Andy

Member Since: April 2005 Posts: 43 Send Message	trying to find more information about my maternal grandfather - the missing piece is info about his birth - i know he was born around 1899 but i dont know anymore about his birth - i beleive he married Dorothy Ada Sawyer in Reading in 1917 - he was a soldier at that time. They had 5 children and lived in the kent area; divorced around 1944 - John married again and died in 1966 - any information about John's birth date/place/family would be appreciated thanks Jo
