My gt gt grandmother was Janet Robertson b. 1848 in New Monkland, Lanark. I have Janet's parents Andrew Robertson and Stirling Bain Wright.

From the 1861 census Stirling (Wright) Robertson was aged 44 and born St. Ninians, Stirling. I have been having huge problems trying to find her !!

I went into scotlands people and couldn't find her, so I entered the surname Wright, with no forename, sex - female born around 1816 - 1817 in Stirling (all districts). It came up with a match of 20. When I viewed it I found the name Bain Wright b. 29/06/1817, Falkirk, Stirling. Parents stated as George Wright and Bain Brown.

I went into familysearch.org and entered Bain Wright. It came up with a match of Bain Wright b. 29/06/1817, Falkirk but was stated as MALE !!

Now I'm really confused, has anyone else had problems like this ????

Yes, I found their marriage on familysearch but it's Stirling's birth that I'm having problems with.
I'm not sure if she's been born Bain Wright and later changed it to Stirling Bain Wright (as she was born in Stirling).

Thanks Helen,
I had a wee look on scotlands people at the deaths you mentioned, unfortunately they don't seem to match.
The search goes on !!! x

My guess is that the boy Bain Wright was her brother. Since she was alive 1861, the should be a statutory death rego for her, which would give her parents, incl her mum's MS. I would also get a copy of the OPR page for her marr. Since she was only abt 17, there's liable to be some relly of hers as a witness, and by 1834, these were usually listed, along with a vague address. You might never find a baptism for her, although you might find ones for some of her sibs. I've got a couple of sets of ggg grandparents who only baptized 1 of 9 and 4 of 6 known kids (these are the survivors to adulthood). My gg grans were in the unbaptized sets.

Unfortunately there were no witnesses on her marriage certficate and i've managed to find her death cert - 11/01/1892, Lochside Slamannan - age 65. Again unfortunately where parents are stated in the deaths above hers, it just has a blank at her parents - great fun !!
