Birth registration was not compulsory until 1875.......the birth may simply not have been registered.

Can anyone help! Does anyone have access to the Staffordshire

records. I am trying to find the birth of my Gt Grandmother Louisa

Edwards who was born in Walsall, Staffordshire abt 1870. I have

sent for 3 birth certificates for Louisa Edwards - all have been

incorrect. Her father is John Edwards and mother Susan.

On the 1871 Census she is in the Workhouse with her Mother Susan

born abt 1842 Waterford Ireland (married), sister Mary Ann (born abt

1867 Walsall) and brother George (born abt 1868 Walsall).

I have a marriage certificate 1893 for Louisa Edwards to Herbert

Henry Wall it gives her father as John Edwards deceased occupation

Stonemason. I have a death certificate for Susan Edwards wife of

John Edwards carpet weaver - death notified by daughter Mary Ann.

If I can find the maiden name of Louisa's mother I may then be able

to find the marriage of John and Susan and ultimately more info on

John Edwards. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated
