Ok here goes....
The child with no named father was George Jones born in Marsh Baldon (spelt march back then) Oxfordshire around c1866...
Mother was Caroline Jones c1845
Siblings were Sarah Jones c1865
and Emily Jones c1868

Hope this helps.... :)

also peculiar middle names sometimes hold a clue to the fathers surname as it was often added as a statement of who the father was.
as dea says if you give more info on here then maybe someone may be able to help

Do you want to give a few details here and we will see if we can come up with something?

No promises, but you never know! - Sometimes fathers are named at Christenings even though they are not named on birth registrations! - It depends when and where it was?

Ok I had a funny feeling that would be the outcome.... the thing that puzzles me though is thAt he had two siblings, one older and one younger....does it mean they are illigitamate even if the mother was still courting their father but not married to him?? I haven't been researching for very long as you can probably tell.....

Thanks

it means he is illigitimate.
i dont think you have any chance of finding out who his father was so will not be able to research that line

I ordered a marriage certificate for my great great grandfather George Jones so I could find out his fathers name to help me research that side of the family further.,... However, when the certificate came through the post I saw that the fathers name and proffession were just left blank with a cross through it!
Does anybody know what this means? I have seen a census record for George's family and there is no mention of his father and his mother is stated as 'unmarried'....

Can anybody help me? I am not sure of how to go about researching his family now......

Thanks!
