Had a look on the Commonwealth War Graves site, and there is no-one with the name Haywood who was in the Navy or Merchant Navy who was killed 1915-1916

I have no birth certificate...i know my dad was born in launceston cornwall dec 1 1916 and baptised in March 1917.his mum Lily May Martin then came to Loddiswell kingsbridge devon, and married someone else...she never spoke of the father...but i am quite certain that his middle name is a link..Horace Haywood martin...but where do i start all the elderly relations have gone!

Yep i pretty much am at a loss with my Paternal Granfather...i kinda guessed his surname was probably Haywood as it was my fathers middle name but no family left to speak to of that generation...as he was illegimate .and father unknown on birth certificate ...i guess my gran took that knowledge to her grave... shame

Not much you can do if the parents weren't married.

BUT unless someone in the family knows the details, it will be impossible to pinpoint your grandfather.

You could trace kin & ask if they know !

That is how I solved my mystery.

i AM DESPERATELTY TRYING TO FIND THE FATHER OF MY DAD hORACE MARTIN....NOT LISTED ANYWHERE AND DONT HAVE MUCH TO GO ON ...I THINK HE DIED JUST BEFORE MY DAD WAS BORN IN 1916...NOT NAMED ON THE BIRTH CERTIFICATE SO VERY DIFFICULT TO TRACE...WE DO KNOW THAT HE WAS A SEAMAN IN THE FORCES. hELP A REAL DEAD END.hIS MUM NEVER SPOKE OF THE DAD.
