Hi Cherilyn and Ingrid, Thanks for all that. The only sure thing we know is that she did marry and became Nancy Shellard and that she died in Brisbane, date unknown, but somewhere between 1985 and 2005, her husband died a few years after her and we think they are burried at Lawnton on the north side of Brisbane. Two of Tom and Nancys sons have passed on and the other two know virtually nothing as the oldest one has memory loss and the other one went his own way many many years ago. If I get Tom`s parents marriage cert with a bit of luck it will have his fathers birth place etc but I won`t hold my breath as a few I have bought just have name and marriage date and not much else. Thanks again for the hard work. Dot

Hi again Dot
Found this in Qld bdm online
Birth for Lucy HARRIS, dau of Henry HARRIS & Emma RICE in 1887 ( reg C6244) and death for Lucy TURNER in 1927, dau of Henry HARRIS & Emma RICE (reg C4276).
Henry & Emma had a dozen children 1884-1904, all born in rural Qld. No marriage found for them in Qld (or NSW) tho so there may be others!
Just need to connect them to Nancy now!

Thanks Cherilyn, I had a look and it seems he enlisted in 1940 and their first child was not born until 1944, by then I think Thomas may have been AWOL. Story is he had a big fight with his father, we think over Nancy who may have been a relitave of his mother (Harris), and was written out of his fathers will, the family cane farms around Mackay were divided between his siblings. Family stories say Nancy had been married previously, an arranged marriage in Sydney with a much older man that she ran away from. Her surname was unpronounceable and was changed to Harris when the family arrived in Australia, Nancy was about 8 years old then and she never talked about her past but her brother said they were Jewish and their parents had gone to England (Wales?) where Nancy was born and then on to Australia. Thomas and Nancys children didn`t know for sure if their parents were married but they thought not. Nancy did marry in Brisbane much later in life, to a Berrisford Shellard, date unknown, we think after she had confirmation of her first husbands death. Oh well, thats life hey, I will keep looking for Toms background. Thanks again Dorothy
