It might be helpful to get this certificate for the Maud you mention

Although it looks like she was probably BAKER that might have been from a previous marriage.
The surest way forward, ...or back.... is to buy a copy of one of the children's birth certificates. This could save alot of time and money in the long run, if you went off down the wrong path following the wrong DAVIS /DAVIES family.

Thanks for all this. Some of it looks very promising. I'll follow it up. I have found Joseph Davis and Maud Davis on the 1911 census now. What I really need is Maud's maiden name. If it is Baker, that should open up a new line of enquiry.

Anybody know anything about Joseph Davis? Probably born in the 1880s, he married my great grandmother Maud(e) (don't know maiden name). They may be connected with Keighley or Huddersfield. Had several children inc Charlotte, Maud (b1914), Mary. Joseph seems to have divorced and Maude(e) much later married Albert. Drawing a blank on this side of the family!
