Hi,

Thankyou for your help on this.

I've been searching Ancestry to see If Ernest became a member on another boat after Moshulu docked in Washington. I know from my research on Moshulu over the weekend that she was laid up so either Ernest stayed in the US or joined another crew. So far nothing.
Is there a particular way to search on Ancestry because I dont seem to be getting very good results.

Thanks in advance

Vicki

yes he was part of crew list

Yes definitely not transported as a convict in 1926.

The local police may have been appointed his temporary guardians.

Ernest George V HARRIS b. 1910 went to Melbourne in 1926 but no death for him there.

Could be him going to USA. Was he travelling alone?

Thanks Guys,

You have all found some amazing info :-)

Im as sure as I can be that Claude Pickering Harris is the father of my Grandad Reg. My Great Grandmother was the servant for Claude, Ethel and their son Ernest when Claude had his way with their servant (my great grand mother) She told my Grandad who his really father was about 40 years ago - he met with Claude once who did not want too know.

Anyway what im really trying to find out is if there are any living decendants from Ernest - i know its a long shot but I have no idea how to begin?

I have found a record for Ernest migrating to Australia in Jun 1926 and his address was shown as Cheif Constable police station, Salisbury and that Ernest was a Farmer. He was 16 at the time - does this mean he was a criminal and sent to Australia? I thought they had stopped sending criminals to oz way before this?

Thanks So much for your help

His birth registration

Births Mar 1889 (>99%)

Harris Claude Pickering Alderbury 5a 183

He could have been born anytime from mid-November 1888 to end of March 1889, as parents had 6 weeks in which to register the birth of a babay.

This also means that he was not of full age when he married in 1907, so must have had to have his father's permission.

By the difference in name, I assume you are trying to determine that he was the father of your grandfather who was born illegitimately. Is that correct? A very difficult task, unless you have documentation!

Trying to find out some information about Calude Pickering Harris born 1889 in Salisbury - He is said to be the Father of my Grandfather Reginald Frank Smith. I have discovered he had another son Ernest George Vangham Harris born 1910 in the London Area and would dearly love to find anyone with a link

Many Thanks
